Mornings are my favorite time of the day. The day is fresh and magical. Serendipity came to visit yesterday morning. I finally heard the name of a song I’ve been searching for. Nick Drake recorded the song “Northern Sky” in 1970. His melancholy life produced beautiful melodies and lyrics. As I listen to his songs, I am transported to another time; a time of searching and discovery. It’s amazing how little things pop into your life at an odd moment, which significantly alters your direction in life. When I heard the lyrics of this song, I knew it was an “A…HA” moment. There is something important happening now that is related to when and where I first heard the song. The winds of change are blowing my way.
Here is the song…from YouTube
Northern Sky – Nick Drake (1948-1974)
From the album Bryter Layter (1970)
never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you’re here
Brighten my northern sky.
It’s been a long time that I’m waiting
Been a long time that I’m blown
been a long time that I’ve wandered
Through the people I have known
Oh, if you would and you could
Straighten my new mind’s eye.
Would you love me for my money
Would you love me for my head
Would you love me through the winter
Would you love me ’til I’m dead
Oh, if you would and you could
Come blow your horn on high.
I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you’re here
Brighten my northern sky.
